FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) - NBC33 is partnering with the Allen County SPCA in a new and exciting way. On Wednesday, the station adopted an adorable three-year-old Lhasa Apso, in hopes of spreading awareness about the need for responsible pet adoption in the area. A name hasn't been chosen for the dog yet, but look for a naming contest next week on NBC33, NBC33.com, Twitter and Facebook.
The Allen County SPCA's mission is to, "promote the prevention of cruelty to animals by providing a safe haven for animals, an effective and comprehensive adoption program, education and outreach programs for the community and deep and broad membership and volunteer programs."
For more than 60 years, the Allen County SPCA has provided such services through donations. With your help, the organization hopes to find forever homes for more than 1,000 pets this year alone.
However, while incredibly fulfilling and rewarding, adoption isn't something to be taken lightly or done on a whim. Pet ownership is a big step in someone's life and in the life of the animal. If you are interested in adopting a pet, the staff at the Allen County SPCA would be happy to provide information, assistance and walk you through the process.
