Being an entrepreneur takes guts. But starting your own business can produce great rewards….for you and for the community. Northeast Indiana has a growing population of young go-getters who are striking out on their own and succeeding. "Your Story Made Here" introduces you to one of them.

Lindsey Hively was a 20 year old college student when, urged on by her dad, she started her own boutique popcorn business.

Lindsey Hively says: So he bought a popcorn popper from a friend a of a friend and he cleaned it up and that really started the research process.

Her business, Poptique Popcorn, was born in Columbia City and a few weeks ago, she opened her second location in Jefferson Point.

Lindsey Says: I've just kinda gone with blind ignorance I guess. I think that's what entrepreneurs do. You just have to hope for the best and set your sights high and make it work. And that's kinda always been our motto. There is no room for failure and so we just made changes and keep going to where you can find success.

Her dad, Gary, is her mentor and saw the spark of entrepreneurship early on.

Gary Hively says: Probably when she was a young girl and her and her brother set up a stand to sell rocks by the side of the road.

Lindsey says: Most other kids were outside playing school, playing nurse, I was playing entrepreneur, coming up with different business ideas.

Lindsey did lots of things right. One them was not letting doubt creep in.

Lindsey says: It seems like a lot of times, entrepreneurs are so concerned with "I've got to get it perfect before I get my product out there but one of the newest crazes in the entrepreneur scene is: just get your minimally viable product out there and just go with it. I didn't have the business plan when we started but if I did we probably wouldn't be here because we'd have so many negatives that go against us so we just made it work.

Poptique popcorn employs 8 people at their two locations. They currently have 20 flavors of popcorn and their specialty wedding and baby products are going great guns on the internet.

Lindsey is optimistic about her company's growth potential.

Lindsey says: My motto has always been go big or go home. So there's just no limit, So I wanna take it as big as I can go!
