INDIANA (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A report by the Indianapolis Star earlier this week shows multiple errors in state crime lab results dating back to 2004 leading some criminals to end up back on the street and some innocent people to be incarcerated.
The Indy Star obtained 2,000 emails from the Indiana State Department of Toxicology showing incorrect test results from 2004 to 2006.
The Indiana University School of Medicine performed the tests.
Governor Mitch Daniels weighed-in on this issue during his trip to Angola.
Governor Daniels says, “I guess you would say this hasn't been their principal focus. It hasn't been as well done as we needed; we have advocated changing the system. I think change will come now and we will move that function to new management.”
The IU School of Medicine did not audit test results until 2008, four years after testing errors were first reported.
