FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The new measures are being taken across the county to tighten down security along the nation’s rail system after someone tried to tamper with a rail switch in Iowa.
The Iowa track is the same line that both Amtrak, and cargo trains transporting ethanol use.
So what is being done here locally in Fort Wayne?
FW-AC Homeland Security Director Bernie Beier says, “What’s important is not to isolate just railroads. What we’re seeing here is the beginning of what is to become commonplace but hopefully not so. It’s all part of the program “if you see something, say something.”
Authorities do not suspect terrorism in the Iowa incident.
Just last month, we learned Osama Bin Laden was urging al Qaeda to derail a US passenger train on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
