FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Everyone dressed up in their best evening attire to attend the Fort Wayne Urban League's Gala Extravaganza 2013.

It’s their annual fundraiser, which showcases their activities and accomplishments over the past year.

This year's event was at the Grand Wayne Center, and featured the R&B musical group the Bluenotes.

Urban League President Jonathan Ray says at this year's gala, there's a lot to celebrate.

"Advocacy is a big, big issue. The Urban League has been pushing the envelope to really change how things are going in our community as it relates to violence. So that's one of the big things we've pushed, probably even harder this year than we have in previous years,” he said.

Earlier this year the Urban League helped to organize and introduce a community action plan called "Building Bridges to a Better Community”.

It’s a multi-platform initiative that involves the community, local government, businesses and churches to find a solution to the city's violence.
