FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Costco is a little over a month away from its grand opening, but the excitement is building as thousands of people are applying to work there.
Costco officials say they only have between 150 and 160 job openings available for the new Fort Wayne store, but so far they say more than 13,000 people have applied at their website.
However, officials say the Fort Wayne store is unique, as they've already hired several local people for management positions. Officials say that is unusual for their company because they normally transfer managers from other locations, although they’ll bring in 35 outside managers to help with the hiring and opening processes.
Costco filed an interest to build in Fort Wayne in August 2012, and the Allen County Plan Commission approved the application in Sept. 2012.
Construction began on the 150,000 sq. ft. facility this July, which will be located on Lima Road just south of I-69 next to the new Kelley Chevrolet dealership.
The membership only retailer will house a grocery store, deli, bakery, pharmacy, tire center, gas station and a wide range of other products.
Costco will be accepting job applications for another month. Positions include check-out clerks, stockers, and assistants for various departments. People can apply online at their website.
Costco's grand opening in Fort Wayne will be October 16.
