FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Dust, mold and tree pollen allergies are projected to be the biggest problems this spring.
Local doctors say the best way to tame allergies is by controlling your environment.
You can't control the outside environment, but you can help how allergy-friendly your home is.
Dr. Mohan Menon, an Allergist with Parkview Health, recommends turning on your air conditioning, air purifiers, or de-humidifiers. He also says as soon as you get home, take a shower to prevent allergens from getting on your bed and furniture.
Doing these things can determine you quality of life.
“Your activities get effected, you can't sleep properly, you get symptoms like fatigue, headache, you use up more of your Kleenex. And, you can have nasal symptoms, eye symptoms, and you can be dragging and feel upset about it,” said Dr. Menon.
He says the best treatment for allergies are medications or allergy shots, but if untreated, symptoms can get bad enough that you may have to miss work.
