FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Warmer temperatures are in the forecast.
While the double digits and sunshine will be a relief to those looking to thaw out, melting snow can cause flooding.
Fort Wayne crews say there are ways you can help, like moving your vehicle off the street.
You can also make a big difference by taking a couple of minutes to clear off nearby storm drains.
"Chip away at some of that ice so that the flow, when it does start to melt, has a place to go and can get out of the street and out of the area," says Frank Suarez with the city of Fort Wayne.
While many compare this season to the winter of 1982, which brought unprecedented flooding to Fort Wayne, Suarez says the city has come a long way since then.
"We have made many, many improvements. Millions of dollars have been spent in our community. The federal government has built our levy system through town. That wasn't here in 1982," says Suarez.
Although the snow will consistently melt in the coming days, city officials believe that with resident cooperation and structural improvements, this shouldn't be a huge concern.
