FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Residents in a southwest neighborhood wake up to sirens, lights, and fire.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) responded to a house in the Whispering Meadows subdivision after thick black smoke could be seen from near-by Illinois Rd.

Crews arrived to the 200 block of Stoney Ridge place just before 8:30 Saturday morning to find heavy fire coming from the attic and garage.

Firefighters say the siding of the neighboring house was also on fire when they arrived. The siding fire was quickly extinguished, limiting the damage to only the exterior.

Crews say they were able to get the blaze under control within 20 minutes.

The house did sustain heavy fire and smoke damage. The attached garage and two vehicles were destroyed, but most of the home was saved.

Two people were home at the time of the fire but got out safely before officials arrived.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for over-exertion but has since been released. Fire officials say the cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature.
