FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- A person attempting to cross Coliseum Blvd. was hit by two vehicles and has died from their injuries.
On Saturday, at approximately 10:48 PM, Police responded to the intersection of Lake Avenue and Coliseum Blvd. in reference to a critical injury crash involving a pedestrian.
The victim was located lying in the middle of the roadway. The victim was unconscious and unresponsive when officers located him. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Initial reports indicate the victim was walking eastbound attempting to cross Coliseum just south of Lake Avenue. The victim entered the roadway and walked into the path of a vehicle traveling southbound on Coliseum .
Witnesses reported the victim attempted to stand up after being struck by the first vehicle. While trying to stand up, the victim was struck by a second vehicle.
The drivers of both vehicles were on scene when officers arrived. Investigators are currently interviewing both drivers and additional witnesses. It has not been determined if alcohol/drug consumption on part of the victim or either driver was a contributing factor in the crash.
Southbound Coliseum Blvd. from Lake Avenue remained closed to all traffic while investigators processed the scene. The roadway was reopened to all traffic at 1:53 AM.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity.
UPDATE: As of March 30th, the victim's identity has not been released by the Allen County Coroner's Office, but 21Alive has learned the victim is a male. He was also with a woman at the time of the accident. She was not injured.
