ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) --- Good news for the local economy, a long awaited ten-mile stretch of US 24 will be opening to cars and trucks within days in eastern Allen County.

It’s a big deal for travel in this whole region.

We highlighted the opening of the Maplecrest Road extension about ten days ago.

The new four-lane section of US 24 passing by Woodburn is a project with a much bigger impact.

For months, traffic headed toward the Ohio border on 24 has been routed around the new section of roadway.

We received confirmation Friday that INDOT plans to cut the ribbon on the new improved 24 on Wednesday.

The current route is two-lane and includes a number of treacherous curves.

The new highway is a $93-million project, paid for by "Major Moves", that means you will be able to drive from Fort Wayne to Toledo on higher speed four-lane road the whole way.

We spoke to a truck driver, who three to four times a week has been dealing with the headaches of the older 24.

" It actually kills about two hours of my time for the week, and when my wheels are not rolling, I'm not making any money, so, it's kind of a bad thing for me going this way right now. So, I'll just say, I'm just waiting til it opens up and I'll go from there," Ronell Franklin said.

Interstate 469 on the south side of Allen County could see a significant jump in traffic volume.

State Senator Tom Wyss, who heads up a senate transportation committee, says the project is long overdue, providing a more convenient way to get to Toledo, as well as a safer route for vehicles large and small.
