SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Fort Wayne - South Bend Diocese is calling for prayer in locating a missing South Bend priest.

Father Dominique Carboneau once headed Saint Aloysius in Yoder, Indiana for 8 years but now pastors the Holy Family Catholic Parish in South Bend.

Father Carboneau had been at Holy Family Catholic Parish in South Bend for just a few months.

In an email to the Diocese, Carboneau stated he was leaving, but gave no explanation or forwarding contact information.

Bishop Rhoades says, "Certainly, I call upon everyone to join me in praying for Father Dominick, but at this point I have to say it's a mystery. We don't know where he is."

Father Carboneau’s own father filed a missing person report with Saint Joseph County Police on January 20th.

The Dioceses of Fort Wayne/South Bend say they're very concerned about where he might be.

Bishop Rhoades says, ""It's really been a matter of grave concern to his family, to me, to the priests and to the parishioners and to his friends. So, if anyone knows of his whereabouts, I hope that they will contact us. A missing person report was filed so we're hoping that there will be some leads."

Police are now looking into Carboneau's financial records for anything that may be of help in the case.

Following is a statement released by the Diocese Thursday afternoon:

"Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades is concerned by Fr. Dominique Carboneau’s sudden departure from Holy Family Parish, South Bend, where he was serving as pastor since September 2010. As the Bishop previously communicated to the parishioners of Holy Family Parish, the reasons for Fr. Dominique’s departure are not clear. His whereabouts are not known by the Diocese. The Diocese is cooperating with civil authorities who are conducting an investigation of the situation. Bishop Rhoades continues to ask for the people’s prayers for Fr. Dominique."
