Columbia City Football Player Hospitalized in Critical Condition

August 25, 2013 Updated Aug 25, 2013 at 11:38 PM EST

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (21 Alive) - Columbia City High School senior fullback and linebacker Sam Dailey remains hospitalized in critical condition after surgery late Friday night.

School officials would not comment about what the injury is, but Columbia City football head coach Randy Hudgins says it came on a minor play in the third quarter of the Eagles' opening game at Warsaw Friday night.

Dailey was removed from the game, and his condition quickly worsened on the sidelines, leading to the hospitalization and surgery.

Hudgins said Saturday the situation has become somewhat better, and that he, his team, the Dailey family and the Columbia City community are grateful for the outpouring of best wishes for Sam.
