FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - With Citizens Square now open for business, we offer some guidance on where you can find some of the offices you may need in the new government building.
Our tour of 200 East Berry Street works from the bottom up.
A big room in the basement will host a variety of public meetings, including those conducted by city and county councils.
Visitors need to know several areas in the building are a work in progress.
Frank Suarez/Fort Wayne Director of Information: " There's a lot of heavy equipment around, someone could get hurt. At this point, until we get all of that completed, they will have to check in at the front desk and get a visitor's badge."
Magnets for the public, the City Clerk's Office and City Utilities, are featured on floor one.
The City Right of Way office, where folks come for permits to do driveway rehabs or dumpster installations, that's a primary destination on the second floor.
On floor number three, you find city and county Human Resources, where government workers and new hires often come for aid or answers.
On the top floor, the space behind an ornate atrium is now home to the Mayor.
The Allen County Commissioners will occupy prime space in an office about 25 feet away.
Jeff Neumeyer: " There are only four floors here in Citizens Square, unlike the nine in the City-County Building. Despite that, there are some offices that you would not find in the C.C.B."
Neighborhood Code Enforcement used to be in its own building. Now, it is combined with Community Development on floor three.
Frank Suarez: "To bring them in one building is really going to improve the quality of what they can do and what they can achieve."
As an added benefit, volunteer greeters, who are expected to help visitors navigate the unfamiliar surroundings, will staff the building.
