FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - With less than a month until school begins, it's time once again for back to school shopping. So, grab your student's school supply list, and get ready to fill up that shopping cart.
Back to school shopping is a pain for some, and an adventure for others.
"I'm really excited," says Luke Wilson while he shops with his mother at Meijer on Lima Road.
Joan Wilson of Churubusco, Luke's mother, says, "I look forward to it, and he's really excited about going back to school. That's always a fun time for both of us."
A lot of shoppers are on the hunt for good deals.
"The game plan is ad matching. Save as much money as I can," says Marie Perrella of Huntertown.
There are lots of back to school specials, but have the prices went up this year? That depends on who you ask.
"I do think they went up considerably," says Perrella.
"I think it's about the same as it normally is," says Wilson.
If you have more than one child, the shopping cart can fill up quickly. Perrella is shopping for four children in kindergarten through 8th grade.
Perrella names just a few of the many items on her list. "35 divider tabs. I need like 15 glue sticks."
Paying for it all can take budgeting. "I break it up into different days of the week instead of doing it all at once," says Perrella.
Indiana's NewsCenter looked at a typical back to school shopping list for kindergarten - scissors, glue, crayons, a folder, pencils, erasers, markers, pencil box, craft shirt, paper towels, ziplock bags, shoes, shorts, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, and a backpack.
Once we finished up all of our shopping, it was time to check out. We looked for the most affordable items, and the total came to $54.09.
If you're buying for 5th to 8th graders, the total jumps to $60.07 once you add in binders, notebooks, and a few other essentials.
To save some cash, look for coupons. In some cases, you can also use what you already have at home.
"I'm just ready to get it done," laughs Perrella.
That's something most back to school shoppers can agree on.
