WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's Newscenter) - Two boys were found dead in the Wabash River in Wells County Friday evening.

Indiana Conservation Officers say 16-year-old Christopher Mohan and 6-year-old Huntre Nelson both of Bluffton were trying to save a friend who slipped in around 5:39 pm.

The two victims were with two other juvenile girls near the Wabash River at County Road 450 East at the White Bridge at Ouabache State Park near Bluffton.

When one of the girls fell in, Mahon entered the water to assist her, but was unable to do so. Nelson then entered the water to assist, but he too was unable to do so.

The remaining girl on the bank was then able to reach out to the female victim in the water with a stick and assist her to the shore. The two boys were unable to make it out of the water safely.

Conservation Officer Kenny Wireman and members of the Bluffton Fire Department recovered the two boys at 7:05 pm.

Wireman was assisted by the Bluffton Fire Department, Wells County Sheriff’s Department, Wells County Fire Department, Wells County EMS and Adams County Fire Department.
