NEW HAVEN, Ind. (21Alive) - New Haven High School looks to be a boys basketball power in the Northeast Hoosier Conference again this year.
New Haven won both the NHC and a 4A sectional championships a year ago. The Bulldogs are looking for more this year.
While standout V.J. Beachem has now moved on to the University of Notre Dame, head coach Al Gooden says size inside could lead the Bulldogs this year.
"We have good rebounders," center Steve McElvene says. "Everybody crashes the boards. Offensively, we've got some very good shooters."
McElevene stands at 6'11", and will be a force to be reckoned with on both sides, especially defense.
"Coach Gooden always brings a defensive mindset to the whole team," guard Jailan Wattley says. "If we buy into the defensive mindset, we'll go pretty far."
The Bulldogs open the regular season Dec. 3 at home against Northrop.
