FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - The North Side High School football has been in the thick of the the Summit Athletic Conference race the past few years, ultimately just falling short of a the league crown.

"You can just tell when we step on the field, the kids are ready to compete," head coach Ryan Hall says. "I'm hoping that we're past the point that we surprise people, and people are really preparing for us.

The Redskins started 5-0 a year ago, and 4-0 the year before, but have not won the Victory Bell since 1991. But optimism remains a key part of the the Redskins' recipe.

"The seniors last year installed in us to work hard," linebacker Latavion Guy says. "To fight and to have pride in North Side. The years before us, I can't say they didn't have pride; they just didn't probably work hard."

Two transfers will also play big roles for North Side this year. D'Marcus Moon comes to North Side from Bishop Dwenger; and Michael Lovett has moved over from Wayne.

"It's really exciting to be in a winning program. I'm not used to that. It's different, and it feels good," Lovett says.

The senior class came were freshman when Hall took over as head coach, and hope to finish off their high school careers finishing off an SAC title run.

The Redskins, ranked 9th in the 5A preseason IFCA coaches poll, open the regular season with Concordia Lutheran.
