DALLAS (21Alive) - The 2013 season is already over for Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer.
The Cowboys placed Spencer, a former Bishop Luers High School and Purdue University standout on injured reserve Wednesday, saying the Pro Bowler will need more surgery on his left knee.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones foreshawdowed the news Tuesday on his radio show.
"We have relied, and would rely on Anthony," Jones says on KDLR-FM. "That was numbers-wise and experience-wise and, frankly, talent wise that was an area of strength for us."
Spencer has seen limited action so far this season, following knee surgery during training camp.
Spencer was the Cowboys' franchise signee this year, and is set to become an unrestricted agent in 2014.
