FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - IPFW signed men's basketball head coach Tony Jasick to a two-year extension Thursday.

The two-year extension runs Jasick's contract through the 2017-18 season.

"From a recruiting standpoint, I think it helps families when you visit them, and you can say, 'Hey, I'm going to be here to coach your son.'" "From our standpoint within the campus and in the community, committing to continue to grow the program is huge."

Jasick enters his third season as Mastodons' head coach, and is 27-36 in his previous two seasons. He led IPFW to 16 wins last season, the most since 1992-93.

Jasick has also helped the academic progress of the IPFW men's basketball team. The 'Dons posted back-to-back perfect Annual Progress Report scores. Additionally, the team's grade point average has climbed to 2.99.

The 2013-14 season will be Jasick and his family's tenth in Fort Wayne. He previously served as associated head coach and assistant coach under Dane Fife.

IPFW opens the regular season Nov. 9 at Dayton.
