FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Tyler Eifert played his college football two hours from home; now he will play pro football three hours from home.

Eifert, the former Bishop Dwenger star and Notre Dame All-American tight end, was picked 21st overall by the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday night in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

"Excited," Eifert says after National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell announced his name at New York's Radio Music City Hall on Thursday night. "They got an extremely talented group on offense. One of my Notre Dame teammates, Trevor Robinson, is there. So, it should be fun having him there."

Eifert watched the draft with family and friends at the family home north of Fort Wayne. Just before 11 p.m., Eifert answered a call from Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. Moments later, the Bengals made their selection known.

"My parents lost it," Eifert says. "I said, 'Let's have some composer here!' They said, 'You just got drafted! There's no composure here!'"

"He's going to make Cincinnati proud," Greg Eifert, Tyler's father, says. "I gave him a big hug today before everybody showed up; and I said, 'You know what, all the work's paid off.'"
