Canterbury Earns Return To State With Rout Of Lafayette Central Catholic (With Video)

CROWN POINT (www.incnow.tv) - Top ranked and defending 1A state girls basketball champ Canterbury will get to defend that title after whipping Lafayette Central Catholic 74-50 Saturday in the girls 1A semi-state at Crown Point.

Canterbury burst out to a 15 point lead after one quarter and kept extending it through the first half.

Lafayette Central Catholic made a brief charge in the third quarter to get within nine, but the Lady Cavs took off again, and this time pulled away for good.

Bailey Farley paced the Caterbury attack with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Darby Maggard added 16 points and eight assists, Kindell Fincher 15 points and seven rebounds, and Aaliyah Gaines and Katherine Smith each chipped in a dozen points

Emily Denhart's 18 points topped Lafayette Central Catholic.

Canterbury will now face Vincennes Rivet, who they beat at state in 2009 and 2010, for the 1A title this coming Saturday in Terre Haute.
