FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - The Homestead High School girls basketball has had the bitter taste of defeat all offseason.
The Lady Spartans lost to eventual state runners-up South Side by one point in the 4A sectional championship.
"We know each other," senior Sydney Buck says. "We all know the offenses and what we want to do as far as the game plan goes each time."
Homestead has high expectations a year later. The team returns many players who have experience on a team that finished 21-4 on the season.
"We have to beat some really good teams," junior Grace German says. "There are alot of good teams in our sectional and regional. We all need to work as a team. We have a couple new girls, but everyone else is coming back."
That experience could help the Spartans take the next step. Ranked in the Top 10 in Class 4A, Homestead has a tough schedule of many 4A foes.
"We play a lot better when we're all together. We know each other's strengths and weaknesses as we're playing," junior Josie Fisher adds.
They match-up against reigning Northeast Hoosier Conference champions Norwell on Dec. 5.
