FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Wayne High School returns the most starting experience of any team in Northeast Indiana in 2013.

The Generals bring back a total of 19 starters, many of whom enter their fourth season taking varsity snaps.

"It wasn't my intent to start a lot of freshman my first year," head coach Robert Brown Says. "Circumstances kind of made it happen that way. Now that they have started for two or three seasons, we look to be a very seasoned team. We shouldn't have any kids too nervous on Friday night, because they've been through it before."

The senior class has been a new experiment at Wayne to develop talent, depth and experience to cultivate a system to build on going forward.

"We rely on every single person," wide receiver Zachary Ryan says. "The whole offense and the whole defense is just full of leaders. Come the end of the season, we know we're going to compete. We just have to put our work in to win."

Winning has been scare at Wayne, going 3-18 over the past two season. But changing the mindset of the program is part of the hardwork these Generals have put in.

"We know what we had to do last year, but it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to," linebacker Curtis Stephens says. "We take that this year, and we try to use that as a mentality. We're going to be pretty good this year."

Wayne appears to be heading in a positive direction, which could include a move up the Summit Athletic Conference standings.
