HUNTINGTON, Ind. (21Alive) - The Huntington County Community School board put to rest a coaching contract controversy on Friday, giving longer contracts to three key head coaching positions.

The board approved a three-year deal for Heidi Lawson as Huntington North High School girls basketball head coach. Boys basketball coach Rob Irwin and football head coach Trent Fine were awarded an additional year extended to their contract. All three coaches' deals run through 2016.

The issue became a hot topic in Huntington after resolutions to extend Irwin's and Fine's contracts were tabled at the previous school board meeting.

The tabling left parents and board members at odds on the future of their coaching positions and the future of the boys basketball, girls basketball and football programs.

Ultimately, three unanimous (7-0) votes put an end to the debate, and unified the community behind the new Viking coaches.
