FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Bishop Luers High School will look a lot different for the first time in while in the 2013 season.

New coaches, many new players and a new classification will make for a tough test in the Summit Athletic Conference and postseason, but Luers can be near the top of the league again.

"We've got a lot of leaders by example," head coach Kyle Lindsay says. "The kids have come out, they've worked hard without complaining, which you love as coach." Lindsay replaces his father, longtime coach Matt Lindsay, who was fired midseason last year. Kyle coached one game as interim coach and Steve Keefer finished out the season.

The Knights would ultimately cash in, winning a fourth straight 2A state championship. The success at Luers has moved the football team up to Class 3A for at least the next two-year cycle.

Gone are 18 starters from a year ago, including Indiana Mr. Football & Butkus Award winner Jaylon Smith. But Luers has already been competing by filling positions.

"We got 63 or 64 guys on our 10th through 12th varsity roster, and they're all competing for a starting job," Lindsay says.

Quinn Cook returns as quarterback, and wide receiver Austin Mack will be a big target on offense.

"The offense this year is not as much running," Mack, a sophomore, says. "We're more passing. But we're still going to show teams that we're still going to run the ball down their throats."

Despite growing pains at Bishop Luers, the Knights are always a team to beat in the SAC.
