FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21 Alive) - Jesmuel Valentin's two run inside the park homer set off a seven run fifth inning, which was followed by a five run sixth, as the Great Lakes Loons socked it to the TinCaps Saturday 13-4.
Valentin's homer, aided by Fort Wayne mistakes in the field on the play, erased a 2-1 TinCaps lead, and the Loons just went to town on Fort Wayne pitching after that, pounding out 17 hits, getting all of their runs and hits off starter Pete Kelich and reliever Josh Richardson.
The next three TinCaps pitchers, Genison Reyes, Erik Cabrera, and Reynaldo Bruguera, combined for three hitless innings and four strikeouts.
Jose Urena's third inning double high off the left field wall drove in the run that made it 2-1 Fort Wayne before Great Lakes exploded for their two big innings.
The four game season opening series wraps up on Sunday.
