Fort Wayne (Indiana's NewsCenter)- Frank Garces earned his sixth win in his last seven outings, and Kyle Gaedele hit two home runs as the Fort Wayne TinCaps defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks by a score of 5-1 Wednesday night at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne has now won seven of its last eight ballgames.

After two scoreless innings, the TinCaps notched the first run of the game when Travis Whitmore scored on a wild pitch in the third inning. South Bend (16-15, 51-50) starter J.R. Bradley (6-7) followed the wild pitch by giving up an RBI single to Duanel Jones, which put Fort Wayne (19-12, 50-51) in front, 2-0.

The scoring continued in the third, when Kyle Gaedele blasted his first of two solo home runs. His leadoff shot made it 3-0, and Yeison Asencio later drove home Jace Peterson, giving the TinCaps a 4-0 advantage.

Garces (7-4) danced in and out of trouble all night, walking four batters over his 5 1/3 innings. The lefthander allowed one unearned run, and struck out three while also yielding three hits. South Bend’s lone run scored with Johnny Barbato on the hill, as he entered the game with the bases loaded, and allowed an RBI single to Kerry Jenkins.

Gaedele’s second home run came in the sixth inning, as he led off the frame with another shot to left field. His two-homer performance marked just the third time this season that a Fort Wayne player has hit two home runs in one game. Last it happened, Yeison Asencio hit two home runs against South Bend on June 11th.

Game two of the three game series is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05.The scheduled starters are Chris Fetter for the TinCaps and Tyler Green for the Silver Hawks.
