FORT WAYNE, IN (December 18,2012) – The Canton Charge outplayed the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the second half to get the 97-81 win at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday night.
In the first half, both teams exchanged the lead a number of times before the Ants took a six point lead with four minutes left in the second quarter off of a JaJuan Johnson jump shot. Canton fought right back, though, and tied the game at the half off some great work in the post by Kyle Gibson and a nice jumper from John Leuer at the buzzer to send the teams into the locker room tied up at 48.
The second half belonged to the Charge. They came out jumped out all over the Mad Ants and went on a 18-6 run to built a twelve point lead just eight minutes into the half. The lead ballooned to as high as seventeen before the Mad Ants reserves came into the game and gave their team a spark. Led by the gritty play of Tony Mitchell, Sadiel Rojas, and Chris Porter, the Ants chipped away at the lead until it got to as low as five with seven minutes remaining in the game. The Charge offense finally got untracked, however, and they went on a 19-8 run to finish the game out with a 97-81 victory.
The Canton Charge were led by the terrific play of their inside players, Jon Leuer (20 points and 14 rebounds) and Arinze Onuaku (19 points and 9 rebounds). Kyle Gibson had a nice game also with 19 points.
The Fort Wayne Mad Ants were led in scoring by JaJuan Johnson's 17 points, with Tony Mitchell adding 10 points and Sadiel Rojas contributing 8 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.
