BROOKLYN, Michigan (21 Alive) - Joey Logano improved his chances of making the Chase for the Spring Cup with his win Sunday in the Pure Michigan 400.
Logano, who started on the pole, took the lead from Mark Martin three laps from the end when Martin's car ran out of gas on a gamble that failed.
Logano was said to have maybe a lap worth of fuel left in his car at the end.
Kevin Harvick finished second and Kurt Busch third.
Points leader Jimmie Johnson, who has rarely had good fortune at Michigan International Speedway, went out early with engine trouble and finished 40th.
Logano's win moved him within 27 points of the tenth and final spot in the points race that qualifies a driver for the Chase
