Indianapolis (Indiana's NewsCenter)- The Indianapolis Colts signed third round (64th overall) draft selection, tight end Dwayne Allen.
“It’s a great feeling to get this out of the way and behind me,” said Allen. “Now I get to focus on football because that’s what I love to do. The Colts did a great job as well as SportsTrust who represents me in getting this thing done as quickly as possible so I can get to training camp in time.”
Allen started 33-of-41 games at Clemson and registered 93 receptions for 1,079 yards and 12 touchdowns in his collegiate career. In 2011, he became Clemson’s first recipient of the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s best tight end. Allen was also named an All-America first-team choice by The Associated Press, ESPN.com, Phil Steele, Football Writers Association and Sports Illustrated. His total of 50 receptions last season broke the previous school season-record for tight ends, topping the previous mark of 43 catches by Michael Palmer in 2009.
The Colts have signed nine of their 10 draft picks, including Allen, offensive guard Justin Anderson, running back Vick Ballard, wide receiver LaVon Brazill, defensive tackle Josh Chapman, linebacker Tim Fugger, quarterback Chandler Harnish, wide receiver T.Y Hilton and quarterback Andrew Luck.
