CARMEL, Ind. (21Alive) -- Jim Irsay has checked into a health care facility Tuesday after being arrested over the weekend by Carmel police.

This is the statement on Colts.com: "Yesterday, Jim Irsay took the first step toward regaining good health. He voluntarily checked into a highly-respected health care facility and is committed to undergoing the treatment and care necessary to help him meet his challenges head-on. Jim, the Irsay family, and the Colts organization are all deeply appreciative of the incredible outpouring of support and compassion from our fans and the Indiana community."

(RTV6) -- Officials confirmed Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested and jailed over the weekend in Carmel, Ind.

Hamilton County Jail authorities said Irsay was arrested late Sunday night by Carmel police. He was booked at 3 a.m. Monday in the jail.

He was released about 1:30 Monday afternoon after posting bond.

"Guys, I'm not going to comment right now, thank you," Irsay said as he passed the media on his way out of the jail.

Irsay faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.

The Carmel Police Department said just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Irsay, 54, was stopped in the 13000 block of Horseferry Road for driving too slowly, stopping in the roadway and failing to use a turn signal.

During the pullover, police said Irsay failed several sobriety tests and was put under arrest.

Police said they searched Irsay's car and found several prescription drugs in pill bottles. Carmel police said the "schedule-IV prescription drugs" were not associated with any prescription bottles found in the car, so he was preliminarily charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Irsay bonded out of jail Monday afternoon, and an initial court hearing was scheduled for March 26.

In October 2013, Irsay tweeted that he doesn't drink alcohol.

"Actually working,sorry naysayers..I don't drink...haven't in over 15 years..I know when your unhappy or jealous it's easy to b mean-spirited"

In 2002, Irsay admitted to a past dependence on painkillers and said he had undergone treatment.

RTV6's Rafael Sanchez talked to a spokesperson for Irsay. They said a statement would be released on Irsay's arrest sometime Monday morning.
