Carpenter Fastest On Day 1 Of Indy Qualification Process

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (21 Alive) - Ed Carpenter posted the fastest four lap average Saturday on Day 1 of the qualification process for the 2014 Indianapolis 500 on Saturday.

Carpenter's four lap average was 230-661 miles per hour.

All running Saturday did was get a driver in the field.

On Sunday, they will all run again, with the nine fastest later vying for the top nine starting spots for the 500, including the pole.

The rest of the 33 in the field will then vie for spots 10-33

Eight other drivers also topped the 230 mark on Saturday, including Carlos Munoz, Helio Castroneves, James Hinchcliffe, Will Power, Marco Andretti, Simon Pagenaud, Josef Newgarden, and J.R. Hildebrand.
