FORT WAYNE (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Baer Field Speedway will host its biggest even of the season Friday night when the 12th annual “Gold Cup 100 will be run.
The “Gold Cup 100” for the nationally sanctioned Superpro Late Model Series will be the third appearance for the Superpro cars this season. Last year, Fort Wayne’s Tommy Cook won the “Gold Cup” en route to his second-consecutive Superpro title, but enters this year’s event mired in a season-long slump and out of the top-10 in points. Illinois driver Tom Smith swept the first two Baer Field races and leads the points over Angola winner Mike Kugler and Spartan (MI) winner Jason Dietsch. Those four drivers will be faced with a full field of challengers that will include Angola winner Jack Landis, Rick Everidge, Kevin Todd, Al Cook Jr., and NASCAR veteran Rich Bickle Jr.
Joining the Superpro Late Models will be the only 2009 appearance for the O’Reilly Auto Parts USA Modifieds.
A full program of Baer Field Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks will complete the racing card.
