(Speedway) - Fort Wayne's Erich Johnston could not hold off a charge by Aaron Monson of Nineveh, who shot a final round nine under par 63 Friday to win the 2009 PGA Indiana Open by one shot.

Monson finished at 15 under par 273, after starting the day seven shots behind third round leader Johnston.

But Johnston started missing some putts early, bogeyed 17 to fall a shot back, and then saw a 50 foot birdie try for the tie on 18 lip out.

Johnston shot one under 71 to finish at 14 under 274.

Monson is only the second amateur to win the Open since 1970.

Johnston, a Homestead grad and current player at Purdue, is also an amateur.
