TinCaps Stay Unbeaten, Win In 10

June 21, 2010 Updated Apr 13, 2009 at 11:54 PM EDT

Appleton, WI – The Fort Wayne TinCaps trailed for nearly the entire game Monday, but
scraped together a run in the 9th and another in the 10th to stun the Wisconsin Timber
Rattlers, 2-1. The TinCaps’ bullpen fired six shutout innings to keep the game close.
The Fort Wayne pitching staff was again the story as it yielded an unearned run on just
two hits and struck out 13 Timber Rattlers. Daniel Robertson went 2-for-3 with a run
scored and Jeudy Valdez drove in the go-ahead run on an infield single in the 10th.
Wisconsin plated its run in the bottom of the 1st. Brett Lawrie, one of the top prospects in
the Brewers’ organization, slapped a two-out triple down the right-field line. He scored
when a pitch got away from LHP Rob Musgrave; C Adam Zornes pounced on the ball and
threw to a covering Musgrave, but the ball trickled out of Musgrave’s glove and Lawrie
The TinCaps didn’t mount a serious threat until the top of the 9th. Robertson drew a
leadoff walk and Blake Tekotte followed by hammering a 3-1 pitch up the alley in rightcenter
for a game-tying RBI double. Tekotte moved to third on a groundout, but a linedrive
double play off Sawyer Carroll’s bat short-circuited the rally and ended the inning.
In the top of the 10th, Matt Clark and Allan Dykstra drew back-to-back walks to start the
inning. James Darnell followed with a sacrifice bunt. After a strikeout, Valdez beat out a
ground ball deep into the hole on the left side of the infield, the infield single plating Clark
to give the TinCaps a 2-1 lead.
RHP Brad Brach came into the game in the bottom of the 10th and struck out the side to
notch his second save of the season.
LHP Zach Herr (1-0) fired a scoreless 9th to pick up the win. Wisconsin RHP Pedro
Lambertus (0-1) was saddled with the loss.
The TinCaps ran their record to a perfect 4-0; Wisconsin dropped to 3-1.
The teams continue their three-game series Tuesday at 7:35pm (Eastern time) at Fox
Cities Stadium. Fort Wayne RHP Stiven Osuna faces Wisconsin RHP Michael Bowman.
