HUNTINGTON, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Huntington North High School softball pitcher Erin Rethlake has been named 2013 Gatorade Indiana Softball Player of the Year.
Rethlake, a left-handed junior, led the Lady Vikings to a 26-3 record, regional championship and semi-state appearance this season.
Individually, she finished 23-1 with a 0.18 ERA with 317 strikeouts in 154 innings on the mound. She also had a .486 batting average with 14 homeruns and 36 RBI.
Gatorade Player of the Year honors each state's best player in each sport based on athletic ability, academic achievement and personal character. The award is a joint honor between Gatorade and USA Today.
Rethlake earns a 3.75 GPA and volunteers with youth softball leagues, too.
As winner of Gatorade Indiana Softball Player of the Year, Rethlake is finalist for Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year later this month.
Rethlake is the second Lady Viking to win this award. Katie Hackney won during Huntington North's 2008 season.
