Late Collapse Costly To Huntington North In 4A Softball Final

INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A three run sixth inning accomplished with just one hit was enough for Plainfield to snatch the Class 4A state softball title from Huntington North 3-1 Saturday night..

Plainfield scored two of their three runs in the decisive sixth inning on a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch..

The Vikings were paced by Erin Rethlake and Alyssa Hiple.

Rethlake had two hits in three at bats, and no hit Plainfield on the mound for five innings before things went south in the sixth.

Hiple drove in the lone Huntington run with a fourth inning double..

Huntington North finished the season at 23-8.

Laura Daronatsy of Huntington North won the Mental Attitude Award.
