Concordia's Black Garners National Track Honor (VIDEO)

CHICAGO (June 19, 2014) -Symone Black of Concordia Lutheran High School as its 2013-14 Gatorade Indiana Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the track, distinguishes Black as Indiana’s best high school girls track & field athlete.

Black is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year award to be announced in June,

She won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a state-record time of 41.36 seconds and the 100-meter high hurdles in 14.17 seconds at the state championship meet this spring.

Black was named Ms. Indiana Track and Field by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches and her state championship time in the 300 hurdles ranked as the nation’s No. 8 performance among prep competitors in 2014 at the time of her selection.

Black has maintained a 3.15 GPA in the classroom. A devoted member of her church community, she has raised funds to benefit multiple sclerosis research and breast cancer awareness, and has volunteered locally on behalf of the Matthew 25 Health and Dental Clinic as well as community clean-up initiatives.
