DECATUR, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A community is mourning the loss of a beloved coach and family man Thursday.
Bellmont High School Assistant Wrestling Coach, John Friedt, passed away Thursday morning after suffering a stroke earlier in the week.
Friedt left a lasting legacy of more than 35 years of coaching and mentoring middle and high school wrestlers.
Head Wrestling Coach, Bellmont H.S. Brent Faurote says, “John was the only one who wasn't a teacher but he might have been the best teacher out of all of us. He had a knack; he had a gift when it came to working with kids. We called it Friedt's magic. If a kid was struggling with something, he found a way to turn it around. Whether it was a physical thing or a mental thing or just trouble... He was a special guy. He touched a lot of us."
We will bring you details regarding when the burial will be held for Coach Friedt.
