Canterbury Clears First Hurdle; Blackhawk, Garrett, Fremont, Columia City Advance

UNDATED (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Tabitha Gerardot had 20 points and Becky Pedro 14 as two time defending 1A girls basketball state champ Canterbury opened its title defense with an 88-37 win over Elkhart Christian Friday night at the 1A Hamilton sectional.

Canterbury will face Blackhawk Christian, a 51-42 winner over Lakewood Park led by Allison Kauffman's 23 points, in Saturday's semifinals

Heather House netted 21 points and Megan Getts chipped in 14 as Garrett pounded Central Noble 51-28 at the 2A Eastside sectional to advance against Churubusco on Saturday.

Natalie Knisely had 16 points in Fremont's 54-52 win over Eastside, and will meet Churubusco in the other semifinals at Eastside.

Led by 14 points from Janelle Moss, Columbia City downed Lakeland 60-23 at the 3A West Noble sectional and will play NorthWood, which ousted Wawasee 47-33 in one of the semifinals, with Whitko and West Noble playing in the other.
