FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - The Carroll High School football team has seen the spoils of success in recent years.
Last year, the Chargers won their second straight sectional championship (one in Class 5A, one in 6A).
Gone are Drue Tranquill to a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame and senior Justin Tranquill to a knee injury. But 25 more seniors will look to keep Carroll charging ahead in 2014.
Head coach Doug Dinan says the leadership is most important for Carroll going forward. Offensively, a quarterback has yet to be named in a battle of juniors Cody Dinan--Doug's son--and Aiden Smith. Five offensive linemen return to protect whomever the quarterback may be. With Justin Tranquill out, another running back must step up. The receiver corps is led by Kyle Mallers.
The defense will also miss Justin Tranquill, though seven starters return from last year spread throughout the unit.
Carroll hopes to end its final season in the Northeast Hoosier Conference with a championship, and have already overcome obstacles in preparation for this season.
