MARION, Ind. (21Alive) - James Blackmon Jr. decommitted Thursday from playing college basketball at Indiana University.

Blackmon Jr., a guard who transferred in the offseason from Bishop Luers High School to Marion High School, backed off his September 2010 verbal commitment, and will reopened his recruiting.

Blackmon Jr. committed to the Hoosiers as a freshman; but sources tell 21Alive Blackmon Jr. believes he may have committed too early, and did not receive looks from more college programs.

Blackmon's decision to decommit from IU does not come with a different commitment elsewhere; and the Hoosiers remain a possibility.

"I never said I wouldn't end up at IU," Blackmon Jr. tweeted (@JBlackmon2) Thursday afternoon. "I still love Indiana."

Sources say Blackmon Jr. is open to a number of schools, including the University of Kentucky, where his father, James Blackmon Sr., was a collegiate All-American in the 1980s.

Blackmon Jr. transferred to Marion for his senior year shortly after his father resigned as Luers boys basketball coach for the coaching vacancy at Marion.

Blackmon Jr. tore his ACL in February of his sophomore year, but rebounded his junior year to average about 33 points per game.
