WABASH, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Northfield High School returns to the IHSAA Baseball State Finals on Saturday in defense of its 2A championship won a year ago.
The Norsemen (29-3) head to Indianapolis with 11 seniors familiar with the Victory Field surroundings. As a team, they bat a collective .348 average, and have committed only 32 errors in the last 29 games.
"I think they kind of wanted to fast forward to get this point, knowing it was going to be maybe an exciting run," Northfield head coach Tony Uggen says. "These kids know what it takes to win. They know it's a seven-inning game, and that was proven by the way we came back and beat Delphi in the regional final."
As for pitching, the Norse are led by lefthander Ryan Keaffaber, who is 13-1 on the year with a 0.46 ERA.
"Once we get down there, we've already been there and done everything we can," Keaffaber says. "It will be big to just go and half fun and soak it all in."
Keaffaber will take the mound in the 4 p.m. title game against South Spencer High School.
All four state championship games can be seen on MyTV Fort Wayne.
