August 21, 2012 Updated Aug 21, 2012 at 11:20 PM EST

NOTRE DAME (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Notre Dame junior cornerback Lo Wood has been lost for the season with an Achille's tendon tear suffered in practice on Monday.

Coach Brian Kelly, who on media day had said Wood was a solid prospect to start for the Irish at corner this season, said Wood simply fell while back pedaling in a drill at practice and suffered the injury.

He was to have surgery Wednesday and be out four to six months.
