Fort Wayne (incnow.tv)- The Indiana Tech baseball team rolled to a pair of conference victories over Lourdes University on Tuesday to complete the season sweep of the Gray Wolves. The Warriors won by a final score of 15-5 in game one and 4-1 in game two.
The Warriors boosted their record to 22-10 overall and 12-4 in the WHAC while Lourdes dipped to 12-19 and 3-10 in league play.
The Indiana Tech offense erupted early in game one scoring three runs in the first inning, three in the second, and one more in the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Then, the Warriors put the game out of reach with a seven run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Bryan Brudi (Churubusco, IN/Francis Marion).
Kyle Nolen (Waterford, MI/Kellogg) threw four shutout innings before the Gray Wolves touched him up for a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Lourdes would tack on two more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to avoid the 10-run mercy rule, but Ray Calloway (Fishers, IN/Kishwaukee) blasted his first homerun of the season, an opposite field shot, to end the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Brudi finished with two hits and five RBI and Tyler Denniston (Wabash, IN/Southwood) picked up three RBI with a bases loaded double. Calloway collected three hits and was just a triple short of the cycle.
Tyler Sailer (Hicksville, OH/Hicksville) tossed an inning of relief surrendering two runs on three hits with a strikeout and Chase Keathley (Taylor, MI/Truman) closed out the game giving up one run on one hit.
The Warrior bats picked up right where they left off in game two, scoring two runs on three hits in the first inning. Tech added another run in the third on an RBI hit by Justin Kalusa (Elgin, IL/Elgin) and Jacob Dunnichay (Elwood, IN/Southern Utah) doubled home Alex McKinstry (Ft. Wayne, IN/UNOH) in the fourth to put Tech in front 4-0.
That would be all the run support starter Cam Wilson (Lafayette, IN/Danville Area) needed as he was dealing. Wilson faced just one batter over the minimum through five innings before LU’s Marty Martinez put Lourdes on the board in the sixth with a homerun to right field. Josh Fisher (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) entered in relief of Wilson in the seventh and nailed down his second save of the season.
Dunnichay, Ben Christian (Lubbock, TX/Wayland Baptist), and Brian Hakes (Decatur, IN/Bellmont) finished with two hits apiece while Christian also scored twice. Wilson improved to 3-1 on the year after throwing six innings and allowing one run on three hits.
Indiana Tech returns to the field on Thursday, Apr. 11 when they host NCAA Division I South Dakota State University in a single nine-inning game beginning at 5 p.m.
