Indiana, Purdue Drop Big Ten Openers

UNDATED (21 Alive) - New Year's Eve was not kind to Indiana and Purdue on Tuesday with both losing their Big Ten season openers.

In Champaign, Illinois, Indiana fell to Illinois 83-80 in overtime despite 30 points from Yogi Ferrell and 16 from Noah Vonleh.

The Illini were paced by the 29 points of Rayvonte Rice.

At West Lafayette, third ranked unbeaten Ohio State broke open a tight game in the second half and downed Purdue 78-69.

LaQuinton Ross' 25 points and twelve rebounds led the way for Ohio State.

A.J. Hammons shined in defeat for Purdue with 18 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks.
