WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (21Alive) - Purdue women's basketball forward Liza Clemons has been named the winner of the Comeback Scholarship Award after bouncing back her junior season from another of injuries.
Clemons, a former standout at Snider and Elmhurst high schools, received the award from Methodist Sports Medicine. The award is given to one woman student-athlete in the state of Indiana who has excelled at overcoming adversity or injury.
Clemons improved her statistics across the board: averaging 9.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in her junior season. She also started 27 of 29 games for the Boilermakers so far, and is averaging 27.4 points per game.
Clemons ranked fourth in the Big Ten Conference and in the Top 50 in the nation in field goal percentage (53.8 percent).
Clemons and the other award winners will be honored on Apr. 24 in Indianapolis.
