WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (21Alive) - Purdue football head coach Darrell Hazell announced Wednesday a change to the starting quarterback position.
True freshman Danny Etling will start the Boilermakers' (1-4) next game Oct. 12 against Nebraska.
""(Etling) gave us a boost, " Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell says "We needed a little bit of a jump start right now. And that's where we're going."
A Terre Haute South Vigo High School product, Etling played the last series of the first half and the entire second half of Purdue's 55-24 homecoming loss Saturday to Northern Illinois. Etling went 19 for 39 with 241 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
"Every play doesn't have to be a big play," Hazell adds. "As long as he understands that, he'll be okay."
Henry, a fifth-year senior, was moved to defense at Wednesday's practice, lining up with the safeties. Also notable, Henry has switched from No. 15 to No. 22.
"Rob is the most unselfish guy I've been around in a long time," Hazell says. "He says 'Whatever I can do to help the team, I'll do.' I love him for that."
Henry is 81 for 151 on the season with 832 yards, 4 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He's added two rushing touchdowns, and led the Boilers to their lone win this season versus Indiana State.
Henry, who missed all of the 2011 season with a torn ACL, becomes the second former starting quarterback on the Purdue roster moved to defense.
Hazell also says Wednesday that wide receiver B.J. Knauf has been suspended two games and wide receiver Jordan Jones indefinitely after the two were arrested Tuesday morning on theft charges.
