TinCaps Use Error For Walkoff Win Over West Michigan

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21 Alive) - Josh VanMeter raced all the way home from first on a wild pickoff throw to give the TinCaps a 4-3 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps.

A first inning RBI single by Dustin Peterson and a fourth inning solo homer by Jake Bauers had given the TinCaps a 2-1 lead, but West Michigan rallied to take a 3-2 lead to the bottom of the ninth.

But River Stevens tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game, and then after VanMeter singled, West Michigan catcher Bennett Pickar threw the ball down the right field line trying to pick VanMeter off, and the former Norwell star circled the bases to slide in ahead of the tag with the winning run.

The TinCaps have Tuesday off before opening a three game series Wednesday night at Lake County.
